About

A ministry built around the front door.

Fresh Roots Renewal Ministries exists for a single purpose: to put homeless North Carolina veterans into permanent housing, and to walk with them in the years after.

What we are

A 501(c)(3) housing ministry, grounded in service and the Twelve Steps.

We are a North Carolina nonprofit corporation, classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity under IRC §170(b)(1)(A)(vi). Our work is the acquisition of residential real estate — through donated property, bargain sale, tax-foreclosed parcels, surplus government conveyance, and grant-funded discount purchase — and the placement of veterans into stable homes with the support that lets them stay.

The ministry is spiritually grounded in the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. Our residents are not required to share that grounding. They are required only to engage in good faith with the work of rebuilding a life. The rest follows when it follows.

What we believe

Three convictions that shape every decision.

  1. Housing first, always.

A veteran cannot sustain sobriety, employment, treatment, or relationships from the street. The door comes first. Everything else builds from there.

  2. Property is the lever.

Cash gifts run the operation. Real estate — donated, bargain-sold, or acquired at a discount — multiplies what we can do. Every property we accept passes a board-approved review for clear title, condition, and fit with our mission.

  3. We don't disappear.

Most programs hand a veteran a key and a phone number and call it a placement. We stay. Recovery is long. Stability is fragile. The ministry walks with the resident for the duration.

Where we serve

North Carolina, with a focus on the Triangle and the western counties.

Our incorporation and mailing address sits in Raleigh; our service work extends across the state in coordination with VA Medical Centers, local Continuums of Care, and recovery community partners. We expand by property, not by territory — every house we acquire roots us a little more firmly in the community around it.

If you are a veteran seeking housing, an agency seeking a referral partner, or a property owner exploring a gift, write to info@freshroots.org or call (980) 222-1418.

Help us keep going

The work is not complicated.
It is simply persistent.

Every gift puts a roof over a veteran's head. Every introduction opens a door.
