Every gift puts a roof over a veteran's head.
Your contribution — cash, property, securities, planned bequest — directly funds the acquisition of homes and the support of veterans who live in them. Fresh Roots Renewal Ministries is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Make a one-time or recurring gift.
Recurring monthly donors are the backbone of this work. A steady $50 a month does more for a veteran than $600 once a year, because it lets us commit to leases, utilities, and case management without scrambling.
Gifts of every size matter. Gifts of $500 or more cover roughly one month of supportive housing for one veteran.
A note on stewardship.
We operate with a small, accountable budget. Our most recent Form 990 and audited financials will be linked here as they become available — for any donor or partner who wants to see them.

Include Fresh Roots in your legacy.
A gift in your will or trust is one of the most powerful things a donor can do for a mission they believe in. It costs you nothing today, it preserves your full financial flexibility during your lifetime, and it secures veteran housing for generations who haven't been born yet.
Bequests and beneficiary designations — on retirement accounts, life insurance, donor-advised funds — are simple to set up. We've drafted sample language your attorney or advisor can use.
Sample bequest language
"I give, devise, and bequeath to Fresh Roots Renewal Ministries, a North Carolina 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, EIN 41-2336354, located in Raleigh, NC, the sum of $______ [or _____% of my residuary estate, or the following described property: ______] to be used for its general purposes."
Always consult your own attorney and tax advisor before finalizing planned-giving instruments.
Why include us in your will?
- Permanence. A planned gift becomes part of our long-term endowment for property acquisition. Your gift houses veterans for decades.
- Tax efficiency. Charitable bequests reduce estate tax for taxable estates. Retirement-account beneficiary designations bypass income tax that would otherwise apply to heirs.
- Flexibility. You retain full use of the assets during your lifetime. Revisable at any time.
- A conversation worth having. We're happy to talk with you and your advisor. Confidentially, with no pressure. Reach us at plannedgiving@freshroots.org or (980) 222-1418.
Donate real estate.
A property you no longer need can become permanent housing for veterans. Few gifts move our mission further or carry more substantial tax benefits for the donor.
Why give real estate?
Gifts of appreciated property held over one year are typically deductible at full fair market value — and you avoid the capital gain you would have owed on sale. For property held for investment, this is often more tax-efficient than selling first and donating cash.
What we accept
Single-family homes, duplexes, and small multifamily properties primarily. We also consider raw land in our service area and commercial property on a case-by-case basis. Every potential gift is reviewed against our written gift-acceptance policy before we accept.
Bargain sales
If you want some cash and a deduction, a bargain sale lets you sell to Fresh Roots at below fair market value. The discount becomes your charitable contribution. Useful for property you'd like to part with but need partial liquidity from.
The process
Simple in outline. Careful in detail.
Initial conversation.
You tell us about the property and what you're hoping to accomplish. No pressure, no commitment.
Due diligence.
Title check, environmental review, condition assessment, encumbrances. The work that protects both parties.
Independent appraisal.
Required by IRS for gifts of real estate valued over $5,000. You engage a qualified appraiser; we don't sign off on valuation.
Closing.
Conveyance through a real estate attorney. We provide IRS Form 8283 donee acknowledgment and a receipt for your records.
Veterans move in.
The whole point. We'll tell you when, and we'll keep you informed about the home you gave.
